If all change was good, so would climate change be. I believe the below quote rings true. We’re in the cloud, and handing over our data and experience to company in return for user behavior data makes privacy is a farce.
When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves…
What happens when the company changes its design that you’re so used to? What happens when they change their terms of service? What happens when it is no longer a free service or even worse, shuts down?
Well, we can’t do anything but whine… and with the recent changes I’ve seen on Facebook, Posterous, Highrise, Gmail (though their change is always enjoyed)… I’ve come to realize that you can’t “Trust in Cloud”… I pay for Highrise and Gmail… but when they decide to change… I can’t control it. You may consider me a control freak, but that’s me.
Posterous changed in a blink of an eye… and now a platform which I thought would be simple blogging, has become just confusing. Tumblr is sticking to its roots, so I’m switching… but not completely. There is a difference between content generation and content sharing. Anything I take effort to create, will be found at http://jpm.cc – and stored for posterity, with my branded domains: jpmartin.com and josepaulmartin.com pointing to this site. Why? Just to simplify.
But there’s also stuff that I discover on the web, and I’d like to share. Posterous used to help me with that… but its become complicated. So Tumblr and Twitter are taking over. Head on over there and follow me and we’ll discover the web together…
