Gloom, Doom or Boom?

Today's chart of the day carries from the idea in the last issue about central banks' holding of gold as part of their forex reserves. Today's chart shows the proportion of gold India's RBI has been holding over past ten years. While the holding did not change much during the period FY04 and FY09, it spiked during FY10 as the RBI bought around 200 tonnes of gold from the IMF.

The chart's interesting not because of the spike in gold buying by the Indian Govt. But because not many knew that it was India that caused the fall of the Roman Empire's Denarius. Download the mini report on 'The History of Money' from Chris Weber

Commercializing Your Passion For Peanuts

I know money talks. I've been dealing with it. But its so sad to see how everyone has been converting their PASSION into MONEY. SAD???  Yes, SAD....

In The Biology of Art, Zoologist Desmond Morris tells of an experiment in introducing the 'profit motive' to apes. The first step was teaching them to be artists and to produce drawings and paintings that were decidedly lovely. Once their 'art' was established he began to 'pay' them, rewarding them with peanuts for their work. Under the reward system their artwork quickly deteriorated, and they began turning out hasty scrawls just to get the peanuts. "COMMERCIALISM" destroyed the apes as artists and got them scrambling for a peanut instead.

Are you working for peanuts? Have you tried letting commercialization, (blog) monetization or peanuts turn your art, your passion into hasty, run-of-the-mill crap? Go check your blog, your website. Why do you really need to monetize your passion? You should be doing it for free (you love it so much right?!)!!

P.S. I'm guilty as charged, but I'll be taking steps to remove this and bring back the fun in blogging. Darren Rowse I hope you're reading this :) (no offense)

President Obama

If you watched the inspiring ceremony for President Obama, I'm sure you're feeling something. Change perhaps? Well, time will tell, and I suppose a baptism of fire will take place. I wish this 44th President the best for his tenure, that America may regain its leadership and respect from all nations.

And as we have stepped into 2009, I wish YOU a prosperous, memorable and of course happy year ahead! Why now, well, maybe things will not be the same. Leadership can change the course of history. God favours the righteous... so may the leaders rule righteously and justly.

I'll be sharing with you my progress as well on a nomadic, knowledge worker lifestyle. How I've organized my digital life and how its' helping me achieve more, by doing less and less. How a system has helped me manage my own life like a Business Inc.

Talking about Business Inc, this year you'll probably hear a lot of blogs talking about frugality, simplicity and the basics. One book which I'm currently reading is Your Money or Your Life and one thing I can tell you, is that you should read it if you really want to prepare yourself for 2009 - yes prepare for it to be a success!
